Animal Relationships
Animals have
different kinds
of relationships
+ Besides interspecific and
intraspecific, animals also
relate to each other in other
ways. These relationships can
be beneficial or harmful.
+ The picture shows a prey and
predator relationship where
the velociraptors hunt down
the iguanadon.
These types of
relationships are
symbiotic
+Symbiosis refers
to the reliance of
one organism on
another.
Parasitism
+Parasitism is an
example of a bad
relationship between
organisms.
+One organism benefits,
the other does not.
Mutualism
+Organisms help
each other.
+For example: plants
depend on insects
like bees to spread
pollen. The bees
spread pollen when
collecting nectar.
They both “win”.
Commensalism
+ In this relationship one creature
benefits and the other is neither
benefitted or harmed.
+ Example: orchids growing on trees
does not affect the tree, but it allows
the orchid to grow.
