Argumentative Essay Sandra E. La Fontain O. School of Education Faculty of Sciences and Humanities Edu-053: Technical English Leidy De la Cruz, M.A Tuesday, 12 de April de 2022. Argumentative Essay Changes in puberty Adolescence is a period that occurs from the beginning of puberty to the beginning of young adulthood. During this period, intense and accelerated changes take place, both physical and psychosocial and emotional. Psychosocial and emotional changes are characterized by the appearance of sexual desire and the search for identity. On the other hand, the physical changes in adolescence are characterized by accelerated body growth, maturation of the sexual organs, appearance of facial and pubic hair, the voice of males is amplified and the menstrual period begins (females). Diane E. Papalia and Gabriela Martorel in their book Developing human (2015) express “There is a wide age difference, but the pubertal process generally lasts three to four years and the changes that herald puberty usually begin at age eight in girls and nine in boys (Susman and Rogol, 2004). Recently, pediatricians have noted a significant number of girls with breast growth before their eighth birthday (Slyper, 2006). African American and Mexican girls typically enter puberty earlier than white girls (Wu, Mendola, & Buck, 2002), although recent data suggest an increasing proportion of white girls with early onset of puberty (Biro et al., 2010). By age seven, 10.4% of white girls, 15% of Hispanic girls, and 23.4% of African American girls show signs of the onset of puberty (Biro et al., 2010)”. All individuals of the human species go through the stages of development, meaning that there is no exception, although the characteristics of the stages may vary with the person, mainly during adolescence. Knowing these stages and the changes that occur during them, we can understand how to manage them.
