From The Parish Nurse May Is Skin Cancer
Awareness Month Cathedral Cares About Your
Health. Skin cancer is the most common type of
cancer in the United States. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer.
UV radiation can also come from tanning booths or
sunlamps. The most dangerous kind of skin cancer
is called melanoma. Skin cancer can almost always
be cured when it’s found and treated early. Communities, health professionals, and families can
work together to prevent skin cancer or detect it
early on. Make a difference: Spread the word about
strategies for preventing skin cancer and encourage
communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.
How can Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and
Prevention Month make a difference? We can
use this month to raise awareness about skin cancer
and help people take action to prevent or detect it,
both at home and in the community. Here are just a
few ideas: Encourage families and parents to adopt
good habits together, like wearing sunscreen, use
an umbrella at the beach put a hat on your children
when outside and especially at the beach and limit
their time in the sun. For little ones who can keep
sunscreen on put a light white long sleeve shirt to
cover their arms from. Avoid the hours from 10:00
am to2:00 pm when the sun is strongest. Motivate
teachers and administrators to teach kids about the
harm of UV radiation and why it’s important to
protect yourself. Parents can be great role models
by wearing a hat encourage children to get out of
the sun .
Beautiful Beginnings
We wish to welcome into our parish family.
The following young people,
Aoife Clare Houston
Please keep these little ones, their parents and
godparents in your prayers as they
begin their journeys of faith.
The Parish Community volunteers monthly at the
Pine Street Inn. This opportunity affords everyone the
opportunity to serve the residents and learn about the
problems facing people living without a home in the
community. Please join us on Monday 30 May. Servers
meet in at 4.30 pm at the Cathedral Rectory or 5.00pm
directly at the Pine Street Inn.
The Order of Malta Boston Auxiliary will lead Malta
Walks on the following upcoming Wednesday evenings
at 6.30 pm: 25 May and 8 & 22 June. Participants go out
from the Cathedral’s Deacon Rosa Room, distribute critical resources including food and clothes and, as Pope
Francis challenges the Church, engage those who the
program serves. Please meet in the Parish Hall and enter
via the Union Park Street entrance.
Help Get Us to World Youth Day! A gr oup of Youth
and Young Adults from the Cathedral Parish need our
support for their trip with 3 million young Catholics
from around the world to see Pope Francis in Krakow.
They will sell Easter Baskets, religious items and raffles
after Sunday Masses downstairs or outside. Please keep
them in your prayers as they prepare for the opportunity
of a lifetime! Please direct all questions to Janet at 857413-9697 or janet_gonzalez@live.com. More events
will be coming as the pilgrimage approaches.
