21st LATIN AMERICAN DOCUMENTARY CONTEST OF PHOTOGRAPHY
The works and the days
The Selection Jury, composed of Sandra Liliana Suarez Quintero, William Fernando Aparicio
Camacho and Jairo Ruiz Sanabria, did the work of analyzing and selecting the set of images that
came to the 21 Latin American Documentary Contest of Photography.
The competition received 4,780 photographs submitted by 1,365 photographers from 39 countries.

The selected authors will receive a letter with instructions to send the pictures in high quality. The
photos are in the hands of the Jury, which will select the winner for each category. The awards
ceremony will be on Wednesday, October 7th in the city of Medellin, Colombia. The slideshow with
the selected pictures will be available on the ENS website (www.ens.org.co), on October 15th, 2015.
The physical exhibition will be presented between October 16th and November 15th at the Main
Square of La Alpujarra Administrative Center of Medellin.
ABOUT OF SELECTION JURY
Sandra Liliana Suárez Quintero
Graphic designer, teacher and researcher, specialized in photography. Master in Art Studies. She is
currently Associate Professor and Coordinator of the area of Photography in the Graphic Design
Program at the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogota. She develops photographic, artistic,
documentaries and independent editorials and photography groups such as cuatroojos and a-saltos
de la memoria. Lives and works in Bogotá.
She has combined teaching, researching and photography creation at universities. Some of her
works have been exhibited and published in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and Canada. She got a
grant from the Santander Program "Young Teachers and Researchers 2015". She was the winner of
the first place of the Photography Prize for Cultural Heritage of the Nation (2012).
William Fernando Aparicio Camacho
Plastic artist specialized in pictorial image and specialist in photography of Universidad Nacional de
Colombia (National University of Colombia). He currently serves as a professor at the Specialization
in Photography from the School Arts, Universidad Nacional de Colombia and professor of Digital
Image in Technology in Photographic Image Production of the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in
Bogota.
He has exhibited his work individually and collectively. Some of his solo exhibitions are: La Última
Frontera (The Final Frontier), presented in 2013 at the Bogota Planetarium; Geo Bits, presented in
2012 in the Cultural Program Artecámara in Bogotá; Pattaya Beach, filed in 2011 in Espacio F in the
city of Madrid, Spain. He has participated in over 30 group exhibitions such as: Sixth Bidimensional
Art Hall in 2013 Gilberto Alzate Avendaño, Bogota Foundation; Periscope Laboratory Graduates
2004-2010 Universidad Nacional de Colombia in the Bank of the Republic; Métiers du Monde, Cité
Internationale des Arts in French Alliance Foundation of Paris, France; ApocalypsisWow 2012, in the
Gallery Santa Fe, Bogota.
Jairo Ruiz Sanabria
Social Communicator – Journalist from the Universidad de Antioquia, Documentary photographer,
university professor and cultural manager. Founder and Director of the Latin American
Documentary Contest of Photography “The Works and the Days” from the ENS. He has focused his
interest in social, ethnic, environmental and cultural issues. His most recent exhibitions) are carbon
Lives, image and word, Medellin, African city; Moravia, a district in transformation (Grant from the
Medellin Mayor’s Office, 2010). Carnaval del Diablo, Riosucio. He was a finalist in 2005 of the prize
that brings the New Iberoamerican Journalism Foundation-FNPI.
