September 1, 2015 Dear Parents: I wanted to make you aware of an accident that occurred off campus Monday afternoon after dismissal and may have been witnessed by students who were walking home.
At approximately 3:45 pm one of our crossing guards was struck by a vehicle while working at the intersection of Alder and Glenmont Drive, which is about a block from our school. The crossing guard was taken to the hospital for treatment and appears to be recovering. Thankfully, school had already dismissed so many of our students were already gone for the day. However, some of our students may have witnessed the accident as they were walking home. Though they were never in any physical danger, they may have seen what appeared to be a potentially concerning scene unfold. Please know we take these situations very seriously, as the safety and wellbeing of our students — both physically and mentally — is always our absolute top priority. To that end, we have made our counselor available to speak with students who may have questions about the accident. I want to take this opportunity to remind you to use caution when driving in the neighborhood around our school. I also want to encourage you to refrain from talking or texting on cell phones to limit distractions while driving. However, we know that even with proper safety procedures in place, sometimes accidents still happen. It takes everyone working together to ensure our students are safe. 1 de septiembre, 2015 Estimados Padres de familia: Deseo comunicarles sobre un incidente que ocurrió afuera de nuestra escuela ayer lunes por la tarde, después de que se dio la salida. Este incidente pudo haber sido presenciado por los estudiantes que caminaban a casa. Aproximadamente a las 3:45 uno de nuestros guardias de cruce fue golpeada por un vehículo mientras trabaja en la intersección de Alder y Glenmont Drive, que está a una cuadra de nuestra escuela. Se llevaron al guardia de cruce al hospital para recibir tratamiento y parece estar recuperándose. Afortunadamente, la escuela ya había terminado y muchos de nuestros estudiantes ya se habían ido. Sin embargo, algunos de nuestros estudiantes pudieron haber presenciado el accidente mientras caminaban a casa. A pesar de que nunca estuvieron en peligro físico, pueden haber visto lo que ocurrió. Deseamos recordarles que estas son situaciones serias para nosotros y les garantizamos que nuestra prioridad es la seguridad y el bienestar tanto físico como mental de nuestros estudiantes. Para ello, contamos con un consejero disponible con quien nuestros alumnos pueden hablar en caso de que deseen formular alguna pregunta sobre lo sucedido. También los insto a que tenga cuidado al conducir por los alrededores de nuestra escuela, y que se abstengan de hablar o enviar mensajes de texto en sus teléfonos celulares para limitar las distracciones mientras que conducen, puesto que, a pesar de que todos practicamos los procedimientos de seguridad, los accidentes pueden ocurrir. Se necesita que todos trabajemos juntos para garantizar que nuestros estudiantes no sufran accidentes.
