MUSIC THERAPY TRAINING PROGRAM
Within the framework of the University Program Socrates-Erasmus of the
European Community, the Department of Art, Music and Sport Education of the
University of Cádiz and the Instituto Politecnico do Porto (Escola Superior de
Educaçao, Music Department) offer a joint international training in Music Therapy
covering the degrees of:
Postgraduate Diploma in Music Therapy (60 ECTS)
Master in Music Therapy (120 ECTS)
According to the guidelines of the Bologna Process and the European Higher
Education Area (EHEA), the measurement of the learning achievement of the
students is offered in ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).
Program Objectives
The Music Therapy Program prepares students for an independent and qualified
work in the field of music therapy and conveys the scientifically theoretical
connections between interdisciplinary subjects.
The training covers the field of research in Music Therapy preparing students for
a PhD study.
Music Therapy Program
The Music Therapy training programme is offered as modular training:

Postgraduate Diploma in Music Therapy: three semesters
Ž
Master Programme in Music Therapy: four semesters
Training takes place in intensive week-end seminars and includes e-learning for
theoretical topics.
Since the music therapist's personality plays a key role within the music
therapeutic relationship, the program also includes Didactic Music Therapy based
on self-awareness and self-experience.

Qualifications
The students fulfilling the requirements are able to get a double degree by the
UCA and the Instituto Politénico do Porto.
In order to improve international transparency and to facilitate academic and
professional recognition of qualifications, the UCA will extend a Diploma
Supplement attached to the Music Therapy Master Diploma.

Admission Requirements
The course is open to candidates with an Undergraduate Degree in Music,
Psychology, Education, Medicine or Health Sciences.
English skills at European Level B1.

Advantages of studying Music Therapy at the UCA
The UCA is the first Andalusian University that promotes university teaching and
research in the field of Music Therapy (since 1992).
The UCA is the first Spanish Public University in supplying studies of Music
Therapy in collaboration with a European University within the framework of
Socrates-Erasmus Program. According to this framework, students of both
Universities fulfilling the requirements are able to obtain a double degree by the
UCA and the Instituto Politénico do Porto.
The structure, contents and teaching hours of the training program are organised
according to the guidelines of the Bologna Process and the European Higher
Education Area (EHEA). Up today this is the only Music Therapy Training
Programme offer in Spain according the EHEA.
The training program is organised according to the standards of the World
Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT- Guidelines for Music Therapy Education,
Training and Accreditation) and the European Music Therapy Confederation
(EMTC).
The teaching staff is both international and national recognized Music Therapist
and University Researchers. The education methodology combines the theoretical
and practical training, and introduction to research methods in Music Therapy.
