Dear Families,
We were happy to see you at conferences and we hope you received good
news about your child’s progress and some next steps. We know it is
important to work as a team with our families so that you are informed and
can support your child at home.
Here are some updates for the second quarter:
Math Interventions: All the students were assessed with AVMR, Advantage Math Recovery. Students who need additional support will receive interventions twice a week and a computerized lesson
through I-Ready to help them areas of need.
Reading Interventions: Reading interventionists are adding a computerized lesson through I-Ready
to the interventions block. We are piloting the computerized assessment and targeted lessons with
several other schools in the district. In December, we will diagnose all students k-5 in both Math
and Literacy with I-Ready. This assessment will take the place of the STAR assessment. We are very
pleased with the information and data the I-Ready program provides our staff and will be shared
with our families during the course of the year.
Vocabulary Focus: We would like to have all families support language acquisition with vocabulary
practice. There are many good web sites, books in the public library or flashcards to help your child
learn new vocabulary. We want to ask all families to spend a few minutes a day working on a few
new vocabulary words. If you add three new words a day, by the end of the year your child will have
added approximately 1000 new words!
Accountability Meeting: We will have an Accountability Meeting to review our UIP, Unified Improvement Plan, data and action steps for the 2013-2014 school year on Nov. 14th from 4:15-5:00
pm. Parents are invited to attend the meeting. A district representative will be attending the meeting
to ask questions about the process and the actions steps we have put into place to support student
growth and levels of proficiency. Child care will be provided.
Moby Max: Students will also have access to Moby Max, a computerized website that supports all
subjects (in English), to practice academic skills at home. Students should be set up with passwords
within the next two weeks and will be learning to use it during computer classes. We encourage your
child to use it at home or at the library for additional practice.
Early Morning Library: The library will be open before school from 7:30-7:50 (Tues-Thurs.) for
silent reading. Please encourage your child to spend a few additional minutes reading each day in the
library before school.
Safety: Remember to drive safely in the campus area and follow the established procedures for drop
off and pick up. We want to keep our students safe and we appreciate your support in being responsible and cautious.

Super School News
Davian, 5th Grade
Super School News is an opportunity to be on
Rocky Mountain PBS and to show and tell
how special DIA is.
Alycia, Davian are the anchors. Hannia, Felina, Cole and Bryan are the reporters. Don’t
even forget the one and only producer, Chad.
SSN is a great program that helps our fifth
graders with writing and speaking in Spanish
We are excited to announce that our seventh and eighth grade DIA Middle School
students are participating in a Spanish
book club this quarter. They will be reading A House on Mango Street by Sandra
Cisneros in Spanish and discussing the
book together in both English and Spanish
with past and present DIA teachers! Thank
you to our fabulous DIA Middle School
team for making this happen!

A basic material to have at home is a
dictionary or a picture dictionary. You
can also have vocabulary flash cards,
bingo games, put up the spelling list on
the refrigerator, etc. The school will be
sending home on a later date more ideas to improve vocabulary. In the mean
time, your creativity is welcomed. Your
student and family will benefit!

Student Council News:
We will be hosting a multicultural talent show this year on
November 15th. We are encouraging students to represent
their culture and their ancestors in any performance they
may want to do. For example, they may want to perform a
traditional Spanish song or dance. They could also read a
multicultural poem, perform a part of a famous or traditional play, or play an instrument. The multicultural talent
show is open to everyone! Registration
for the talent show will be the week
of November 4- 7.
Thank you for bringing in Box Tops!
So far, 2nd Grade is in the lead with 659 Box
Tops!! Way to go, 2nd Grade, for winning the Box Tops
Trophy and a popcorn party!
DIA families have contributed a total of 2,623 Box Tops
since school started. This amounts to around $262 that
will go toward sending our 5th Grade students on a special trip at the end of this school year.
Please keep clipping those Box Tops and sending them in.
The grade with the highest number of Box
Tops by December 5th will win a hot chocolate party
and the Box Tops trophy! I will also be awarding a
special prize to the grade that does the neatest job
in clipping Box Tops. (I spend a lot of time trimming
down the Box Tops before they can be shipped out.)
If your class saves me work by clipping NEATLY, you
will be rewarded!!!
We will continue to collect Box Tops and
give rewards all year. Thanks for your support.

Noticias de la Directora
Queridas familias ,
Nos alegro verlo durante conferencias y esperamos que hayan recibido
buenas noticias sobre el progreso de su hijo y algunos pasos próximos.
Sabemos que es importante trabajar en equipo con nuestras familias para
que estén informados y puedan apoyar a su hijo en casa.
Estas son algunas de las actualizaciones para el segundo trimestre:
Intervenciones de matemáticas: Todos los estudiantes fueron evaluados
con AVMR , Math Advantage. Los estudiantes que necesiten apoyo adicional recibirán intervenciones
dos veces por semana y una lección informatizada a través de I- Ready para ayudarles en áreas de
necesidad.
Intervenciones de Lectura: intervencionistas de lectura están agregando una lección informatizada
a través de I- Listo para el bloque de intervenciones. Estamos poniendo a prueba la evaluación informatizada y las lecciones dirigidas con otras escuelas en el distrito. En diciembre, vamos a evaluar a
todos los estudiantes de K- 5 tanto en matemáticas y alfabetización con I- Ready. Esta evaluación
tomará el lugar de la evaluación STAR. Estamos muy satisfechos con la información y los datos del
programa I- Ready proporciona a nuestro personal y se compartirán con las familias durante el curso
del año .
Enfoque en Vocabulario: Nos gustaría que todas las familias apoyen la adquisición del idioma con
la práctica de vocabulario. Hay muchos buenos sitios en el internet, libros en la biblioteca pública o
tarjetas de vocabulario para ayudar a su hijo a aprender nuevo vocabulario. ¡Queremos pedir a todas
las familias que pasen unos minutos al día trabajando en algunas palabras nuevas de vocabulario. Si
agrega tres palabras nuevas por día, a finales del año su hijo agregará aproximadamente 1,000 palabras
nuevas!
Asuntos Escolares: Tendremos una reunión de rendición de cuentas para revisar nuestra UIP, Plan
de Mejoramiento Unificado, los datos para el año escolar 2013-2014, el 14 de noviembre de 4:15-5:00
p.m. Los padres están invitados a asistir a la reunión. Un representante del distrito asistirá la reunión
para contestar preguntas sobre el proceso y los pasos de las acciones que hemos puesto en marcha
para apoyar el crecimiento del estudiante y los niveles de pro-eficiencia. Se proveerá cuidado de niños.
Moby Max: Los estudiantes también tendrán acceso a Moby Max, un sitio informático que soporta
todos los sujetos (en Inglés), para practicar las habilidades académicas en casa. Los estudiantes deben
configurarse con las contraseñas dentro de las próximas dos semanas y van a aprender a usar el programa durante las clases de computación. Animamos a su hijo a usarlo en casa o en la biblioteca para
práctica adicional.
Biblioteca de la madrugada: La biblioteca estará abierta antes de la escuela de 7:30-7:50 (Martes a
Jueves) para lectura silenciosa. Por favor ánime a su hijo a pasar unos minutos adicionales de lectura
cada día en la biblioteca antes de clases.
Seguridad: Recuerde que debe conducir con seguridad en la zona de la escuela y seguir los procedimientos establecidos para dejar y recoger. Queremos mantener a nuestros estudiantes seguros y le
agradecemos su apoyo en ser responsable y prudentes.

Noticias de Súper Escuela
Davian, 5to Grado
Noticias de Súper Escuela (SSN) es una oportunidad de
estar en Rocky Mountain PBS y para mostrar y explicar
cómo DIA es especial.
Alycia y Davian son los anclajes. Hannia, Felina, Cole y
Bryan son los periodistas. Incluso no se olvide del único productor, Chad. SSN es un gran programa que ayuda a los alumnos de quinto grado con la expresión oral

grado están participando en un club de libros españoles en este trimestre. Ellos van
a leer Una Casa en Mango Street por Sandra Cisneros en español y discutir el libro
juntos, tanto en Inglés y Español con los
maestros del pasado y el presente de DIA!
¡Gracias a nuestro equipo fabuloso de la
escuela secundaria DIA por hacer que esto
suceda!
Un material básico para tener en casa es un
diccionario de palabras o de dibujos. También pueden tener tarjetas de vocabulario,
hacer bingos, poner la lista que les mandan
los maestros en el refrigerador, etc. La escuela estará enviando posteriormente algunas otras ideas para AUMENTAR EL VOCABULARIO. Por el momento, toda su creatividad en casa es bienvenida. ¡Su hijo/a
y toda la familia se beneficiarán!

Noticias del Consejo Estudiantil:
Vamos a organizar un concurso de talentos multiculturales este año el 15 de noviembre. Estamos animando a
los estudiantes a representar a su cultura y sus ancestros
en cualquier actuación posible que quieran hacer. Por
ejemplo, es posible que desee realizar una canción tradicional en español o danza. También pueden leer un
poema multicultural, realizar una parte de una obra famosa o tradicional, o tocar un instrumento. El concurso de talentos multicultural está abierta a todos!
Gracias por traer Box Tops!
Hasta el momento, segundo grado está a la
cabeza con 659 Box Tops! ¡Así se hace! Segundo grado gano el trofeo de Box Tops y una fiesta de palomitas!
Las familias de DIA han contribuido con un total de
2,623 Box Tops desde el inicio de la escuela. Esto
equivale a alrededor de 262 dólares que se destinarán
a enviar a nuestros estudiantes de 5to grado en un viaje
especial al final de este año escolar.
Por favor, mantenga el recorte de Box
Tops y enviarlos a su clase. El grado con el mayor
número de Box Tops el 5 de diciembre va a ganar
una fiesta de chocolate caliente y el trofeo de Box
Tops! También voy a premiar a el salón que recorte
más exacto los Box Tops. (Me paso mucho tiempo
recortando los Box Tops) Si la clase me ahorra trabajo cortando, serán recompensados!
Vamos a seguir recolectando Box Tops y
dar recompensas durante todo el año.

From the health officeVision and hearing screening– All students will participate in
our yearly vision and hearing screening on November 14th. If
your child does not pass the screening, you will be notified by
letter from the office. It is very important for your child to be
present and on time.
If you need assistance with
your heating bill, there is
help. LEAP is now taking
applications, please contact
Estrella for assistance.
As the weather is getting cooler, children should come to school with appropriate clothing. Please make sure
to label your child's clothing, this will
make it easier to identify clothing in
the lost and found. If your child does
not have a coat please
contact our Parent Liaison for assistance, Estrella at 970-254-6089.

Visión y Audición- Todos los estudiantes participarán en nuestro examen de visión y audición el 14 de noviembre. Si su hijo
no pasa el examen, la oficina le notificará por carta. Es muy importante que su hijo esté presente y a tiempo.

ayuda.
El clima es cada vez más frío, los niños
deben venir a la escuela con ropa apropiada. Por favor, asegúrese de marcar la
ropa de su hijo, esto hará que sea más fácil identificar la ropa en la caja de lo extraviado y encontrado. Si su hijo no tiene
un abrigo, por favor póngase en contacto con nuestra
coordinadora de padres, Estrella al 970-254-6089.
