Administrator’s Corner
Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 17, 2016
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Memorial Mass. Today at 9 am Mass, we member s of St. Cecilia Chur ch and School, will commemor ate and
honor our late venerable pastor Father Timothy MacCarthy who has departed for Heaven exactly a month ago on
June 17.
May the choirs of angels come to greet him. May they speed him to Paradise.
May the Lord enfold him in His mercy. May he find eternal life.
BBQ Backyard Theology. We had a gr eat tur nout this past Tuesday. The fir st time the W ingits, a band
made up of our school parents, played live excellently for forty-five minutes at this gathering. The St. Cecilia
Church and School community enjoyed both music and the topic on “Faithful Disciples Faithful Citizens.” This
coming Tuesday, July 19 is our last BBQ Backyard Theology of the summer. The W ingits band will continue to
offer their time and talent and play live at 5:30 pm. Fr. Paul Vu will share with us another topic on “Forming a
good moral conscience: What are the principles?” at 6:30 pm. We cordially invite you, your family and friends to
join us once more time this coming Tuesday, July 19 at 5:30 pm in the Hall. VBS is coming the following week,
and the Slurry Seal is the first week of August.
Rummage Sale. We would like to expr ess our deepest appr eciation to Debor ah Tr acy, Sandie and Bill
Guard, the Rummage Sale team, benefactors, parish groups and volunteers who worked very hard in order to have
such a successful rummage sale. I personally invite all of you to join us at 9:00 am next Sunday, July 24, for a
Thanksgiving Mass and a gathering after Mass in the Hall. Gross income from both merchandise and food sales
totaled $16,000. The entire net is designated to our Building Fund. We sincerely thank our parishioners and friends
who donated items to our parish. To all of you, we are deeply grateful. May God, through the intercessions of Our
Lady and Saint Cecilia, abundantly bless all of you and your family with love, peace, and joy!
This week’s Scripture readings call us to r echar ge our spir itual batter ies: put aside the wor k we do for the
Lord in serving others and just spend some quiet time being with Him, talking with Him, listening to Him, and being fully aware of His holy presence in our souls. We may also recharge our spiritual energy by means of our personal and family prayers, our meditative reading of the Bible, and our participation in the celebration of the Holy
Mass. Please schedule yourself to join us at the Pilgrimage to the Holy Doors of the San Juan Capistrano Basilica
on Saturday, August 6, at 1:30 pm, and at Called and Gifted Workshop on Saturday, August 20, 9 am to 3 pm, in
the Hall.
Peace,
Fr. Bao
Continuation from last week…
The Church’s first truth is the love of Christ. The Church makes herself a servant of this love and mediates it to all people: a
love that forgives and expresses itself in the gift of oneself. Consequently, wherever the Church is present, the mercy of the
Father must be evident. In our parishes, communities, associations and movements, in a word, wherever there are Christians,
everyone should find an oasis of mercy.
13. We want to live this Jubilee Year in light of the Lord’s words: Merciful like the Father. The Evangelist reminds us of the
teaching of Jesus who says, “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful” (Lk 6:36). It is a program of life as demanding as it
is rich with joy and peace. Jesus’s command is directed to anyone willing to listen to his voice (cf. Lk 6:27). In order to be
capable of mercy, therefore, we must first of all dispose ourselves to listen to the Word of God. This means rediscovering the
value of silence in order to meditate on the Word that comes to us. In this way, it will be possible to contemplate God’s mercy
and adopt it as our lifestyle.
14. The practice of pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year, because it represents the journey each of us makes in this
life. Life itself is a pilgrimage, and the human being is an aviator, a pilgrim travelling along the road, making his way to the
desired destination. Similarly, to reach the Holy Door in Rome or in any other place in the world, everyone, each according to
his or her ability, will have to make a pilgrimage.

nosotros.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 20
From 9 am - 3 pm in the Parish Hall
Parents are called to stand in the place of God in
their families. What many parents don’t realize is
that they have been specially equipped to do so, in
part by the sacramental graces of marriage and in
part by gifts of the Holy Spirit given to all Christians
at Baptism. How can you discern the gifts that God
has given you for the sake of your family? How can
you help to discern the gifts God has given your
children?
The Called & Gifted Workshop, will teach about the
gifts of the Holy Spirit that all Christians have been
given and that are already at work in our lives.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
St. Cecilia parish is a living sign of God’s saving Word. We
have been called by God to foster a genuine, caring Catholic
Christian community. God empowers us to be a visible sign of
His Kingdom in the world.
YOU…..THE PARISH NEEDS YOU TO VOLUNTEER!
Fr. Bao and Fr. Wayne and Fr. Agustin invite YOU to please
take a moment to look at the page to your left to see all kinds of
ministries and services we have here at St. Cecilia. Please pray
and talk about it with your family and call these ministry leaders
for more details. You may consider helping out only once a
month, 12 times per year. There is not a lot of commitment
required. Thank you so very much! God bless!
