HANDLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DRESS CODE
The Garland ISD school board has approved standardized dress for all Handley Elementary students. Standardized dress is
made up of clothing that meets a particular description but is not a specific brand of clothing. Any brand is fine as long as no
logos or brand names are visible.
DRESS CODE:
• SHIRTS: solid red, navy, or white traditional polo-style knit shirts with collar; may be long or short sleeves; shirt must be
tucked in at all times (a solid white undershirt may be worn if desired)
• PANTS OR SLACKS: navy or khaki; traditional style (no jeans, cargo pants, or pipe pants, etc.) Sagging pants will not
be permitted.
• SHORTS OR CAPRIS: navy or khaki; must be at least knee-length with a finished hem; same style as the pants (no
cargo style shorts are allowed)
• SKIRTS, SKORTS, OR JUMPERS: navy or khaki; must be at least knee-length; leggings must be white, red or blue.
• SWEATSHIRTS OR SWEATERS (no hoodies): red, navy, or white; pull-over or cardigan style; long sleeves; must be
worn over a polo-style shirt. These sweaters may be worn in class. No other colors or designs are allowed inside the
school.
• JACKETS: Can be any color, but will only be allowed during recess and dismissal. Must be solid red, navy, or white to
be worn indoors.

SHOES: required footwear includes tennis shoes, loafers, dress shoes, or other closed shoes; tennis shoes with
socks are necessary for P.E. classes
No sandals or flip-flops will be worn at school.
SPIRIT DRESS: Students will be allowed to wear traditional jeans (blue jeans without designs or holes) with a school
spirit t-shirt each Friday and on other designated days. If student does not own a spirit shirt, they must wear standardized
dress on Fridays.
Male students will not wear earrings.
GROOMING CODE:
• Hair should be kept clean and out of the eyes.
• Hair must be groomed; Mohawks are not permissible. Faux hawks (only top is spiked) must be kept at no more than 2”.
• Multi and radically colored hair will not be permitted.
• Symbols, numbers, letters and designs (lines, circles, etc.) may not be shaved into the hair or eyebrows.
• Close cutting of the hair should be done uniformly about the head with no patches.
• Pigtails or dreadlocks are not acceptable for male students.
Any hairstyle or attire deemed a distraction by the administration is unacceptable.
The dress and grooming codes outlined above are not optional. Change of clothes and hair style will be required along with other
disciplinary consequences may be assigned if students do not follow the dress and grooming codes.
Please take the dress code with you when shopping for school clothing. Stores advertising school uniforms or standardized
dress may not meet our dress code requirements.
The final decision in determining appropriate dress and appearance shall rest with the principal or assistant principal.

EL CÓDIGO DE VESTIMENTA SERÁ VIGENTE EL PRIMER DÍA DE ESCUELA
El Distrito Escolar de Garland ha aprobado la vestimenta estandarizada para todos los estudiantes de Handley Elementary.
Cualquier marca de ropa estará permitida mientras que no tenga ningún logotipo en la parte de afuera o visible de la ropa.

VESTIMENTA ESTADARIZADA:
Camisa de cuello (tipo polo) blanca, roja ó azul marino puede ser de manga corta o larga. La camisa
siempre tiene que estar metida adentro. (camisa blanca solida será permitida debajo de la camisa de uniforme.
Pantalones, shorts ó capri el color es kaki ó azul marino estilo tradicional (no mezclilla o cargo). Los
pantalones tendrán que estar a nivel de la cintura no caídos.
Falda, falda shorts, o jumper el color es kaki o azul marino estilo tradicional y tiene que estar hasta la
rodilla. Las mayas que se usan debajo de la falda tienen que ser blancas, azul o rojo.
Suéter, chamarra ó sudadera usada en el salón deberá de ser roja, blanca ó azul marino sin mensajes ó
dibujos. Ningún tipo de sudadera con diseño o color serán aceptados.
Durante el año escolar, los viernes serán “Días de Orgullo Escolar”. Los viernes los estudiantes pueden
vestir con pantalones de mezclilla y una playera de Caldwell.
Zapatos: Tenis o zapatos cerrados serán permitidos en la escuela con calceta para educación física.
Sandalias no son permitidas. Las agujetas de los tenis deberán estar apropiadamente insertadas y amarradas.
Los niños varones no se les permite traer aretes.
CODIGO DE CORTE DE PELO:
El pelo debe de mantenerse limpio y que no tape los ojos.
Por favor tomen en cuenta que los niños no podrán traer ningún tipo de diseño en el pelo o en las cejas
(mohawks, líneas, estrellas, círculos, etc.). Estos tendrán que ser removidos antes del primer día de clases ya
que no serán permitidos. El mohawk solamente será permitido en la parte de arriba no atrás y no puede ser
más largo de 2”.
Multi-colores en el pelo o colores extravagantes no son aceptable.
El código de vestido y aseo mencionados anteriormente no son opcionales. El Cambio de ropa y el estilo de pelo será
cambiado si en necesario junto con otras consecuencias disciplinarias si los estudiantes no siguen el código de vestido y
aseo personal.
Por favor, sigan el código de vestimenta cuando vayan de compras, para la ropa de la escuela. Tiendas de uniformes
escolares o vestido estandarizado de publicidad pueden no satisfacer nuestros requisitos de vestimenta.
La decisión final para determinar la apariencia y vestido adecuado sera por la directora y subdirectora
