A stunning footpath, known as the Hall Walk, runs between Bodinnick and Polruan and then in turn continues along the South Cornish coast. The novelist Daphne Du Maurier came to Fowey in her early twenties and immediately fell in love with the town, and her parents bought a house in Boddinick in 1926. It was here that she wrote The Loving Spirit in 1931. Today, the Du Maurier Festival is an important annual event in the Fowey Calendar. The pretty harbour town of Fowey, on the opposite side of the bank, is one of Cornwall’s most historic and unspoilt seaport towns renowned for its safe deep water anchorage and sailing. In the summer months, Fowey is a haven for sailors with the Royal Fowey Yacht Club, Gallants Sailing Club and regular racing events. Car and passenger ferries link the nearby Bodinnick and Polruan with Fowey, and run constantly during daylight hours providing easy access to the town’s shops and amenities. There are mainline railway stations at Lostwithiel, Par, St Austell and Bodmin that provide a direct link to London Paddington. The south coast ports of Polperro and Looe are about 15 miles to the east and Truro is about 25 miles away. Newquay Airport provides regular flights to London Gatwick as well as other European destinations. Approached via a long drive, sweeping down towards the creek, the house appears nestled under its grass roof with a decked terrace to one side that enjoys sensational views over the creek. A large sliding glass door gives access to the double height open plan living room with floor to ceiling windows that provide views across the water. From Fowey: Take the car ferry from Fowey across to Bodinnick and then follow the road up the hill. Take the first turning on the right for Polruan and then the next right at the bottom of the hill. The road skirts the head of Pont Pill then turns uphill past the turning to Lanteglos Church. Look out for the first drive on the right hand side after passing the Church turn on theleft. Follow this tarmac lane all the way down until it forks at the bottom. Take the left hand fork and follow the drive around until you reach the property.
